After Brexit, the UK departed from the European Union (EU) and somehow changed the Spanish visa processes and details.

Now, there are some specific visa types that Brits can apply to spend years studying, working, or retiring to Spain from UK 2025. Following are some popular visas you can apply to shift to Spain.

Popular Spanish Visa Types UK Citizens Can Apply For

    Family Reunification Visa

By applying for this visa, you can live in Spain with your entire family. However, you must fulfill some requirements to be eligible for this visa.

    • You must have proof of relationship with your family member (spouse, civil partner, parents, grandparents, kids).
    • Valid residence permit in Spain, and you must have lived in Spain legally for at least a year.
    • Proof of sufficient income to support your family.
    • You must have a Foreigner’s Identification Card (TIE) upon arrival in Spain.

    Work Visa

If a Spanish company hires you, your employer will submit the work permit (Autorización de Residencia y Trabajo) on your behalf. After the submission of the work permit, you can initiate the process of documentation.

    It includes:

    • Visa application form
    • Valid passport
    • Employment contract
    • Copy of the approved work permit
    • Proof of residence
    • Criminal records and medical certificates

You must remember that the work visa is valid for only one year. It can be renewed it as long as you are an employee of a Spanish company.

You can get professionals like My Spain Visa on board to complete this process smoothly and hassle-free.

    Non-lucrative Visa

The non-lucrative visa Spain 2025 is for immigrants who want to live in Spain but don’t want to engage in any activity like business or job. It prohibits people from doing paid work in any Spanish company or startup. This visa is perfect for pensioners thinking about retiring to Spain from the UK.

Therefore, you must have enough financial means (2,400 Euros monthly) to support yourself. Its initial validity is just a year, but it can be renewed if you need it.

The following are the requirements to apply for the non-lucrative visa:

    • Proof of financial means
    • Private health insurance
    • Proof of clean criminal record
    • Proof of accommodation in Spain
    • Medical certificate

Note that you need to submit the application at the Spanish Consulate in the UK personally.

    Self-employment Visa or Autónomo Visa

This one is for people who want to live in Spain and start a business there independently.

You would first need a solid plan of a technologically advanced business, which must include expected investments, potential profits, and job creation opportunities. Plus, you need to provide your professional qualifications, experience, and sufficient funds to support personal and business expenses.

Spain also offers a conducive environment for remote workers. So, if you are a freelancer, remote employee, or an online business owner, you can get a digital nomad visa to work and travel easily.

    Investor Visa or Golden Visa

The purpose of Investor Visa is to attract people to invest in Spain and get residence there. You can spend a peaceful life in Spain with your family by making an investment in:

    • Real estate properties (€500,000)
    • Government bonds (€1 million)
    • Bank deposits (€1 million)
    • Company shares in Spanish company (€1 million)

    Must note that:

You need to get NIE for almost all of the above visas. If you are looking for “How can I apply for a Spanish NIE?” Yes, you can. There are online NIE number registration services that you can avail to get your registration done in a few weeks.
